Pharmacists to get Central Internships Placement – Yakasai Tells PSN-YPG

The President Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Pharm. Ahmed I. Yakasai, FPSN has decried as worrisome the difficulties encountered by Young Pharmacists in getting Internship placements Immediately after Graduation.


Yakasai made the Statement, yesterday in Lagos when the PSN – Young Pharmacists Group led by Pharm. Ekomobong Hanson paid Him a Courtesy Visit in His Office.


In His Words ” we are worried about the lack of Internship Spaces. We are working Very hard and will continue to Push Hard on Internships”.


Yakasai stated that the PSN is working tirelessly with the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN) to ensure that the final framework for the Pharmacists Central Internship Placement program is adopted by the Federal Ministry of Health and Passed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).


The PSN President also frowned at the underemployment of Intern Pharmacists by Pharmaceutical Companies and Community Pharmacies, and called for Better Renumerations of Young Pharmacists who are employed as Interns and Staffs in such facilities noting that it is unacceptable for a Pharmaceutical company to pay as Low as N50,000.


Earlier in His Address, the Chairman, PSN – YPG who is also the Executive Director, Safe Mother Safe Child Healthcare Africa Foundation (Smschafrica), acknowledged the efforts of the PSN on the Central Internship Placement program. He stated that Only One out of Three Pharmacy Graduates will get internship within Six Months after Graduation while the rest will spend between two to three years in search of internships. He described the trend as ugly and a Bad Precedence for the future of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Nigeria.


The Group also used the opportunity to thank the PSN President

and the Entire Leadership of PSN for providing a level playing ground for YPG describing the Current Leadership as the most YPG friendly PSN- leadership.


Hanson also noted the attainment of 90 years by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and the successful hosting of the 90th Annual Conference by the Society as and Strategic and symbolic milestones.


Present during the visit were the National Secretary of The PSN, Pharm. Emeka Duru FPSN, National Publicity Secretary Dr. Arinola Joda, National Editor-in -Chief, Pharm. Adeyemi Oluwatosin and Pharm. Loye Akomolafe, Country Representative TeleHealth Integrated Pharmaceutical Solutions.


Others were the Pharm. Onimisi Peter Benjamin, Immediate Past President of the PSN – YPG, Pharm. Kehinde Philips, South West Coordinator, Pharm. Tom Emmanuel, Chairman, Grants, Proposal and Partnerships Commitee, Pharm. Nseabasi Ekanem, CEO, Trinity Foundation, Pharm. Emmanuel Ebroko, MD, Emcorp Healthcare, and Pharm. Jeffrey Irivboje



The Group presented an Art photo to Pharm. Ahmed Yakasai as a token of appreciation for His support , while Calling for More support in areas of Office Space for YPG, Entrepreneurship Grants, Mentorship Project and Drug Abuse project.
